Optimizing And Troubleshooting Active Directory Performance

To increase the logging level for the directory service log in the registry, complete the following steps:
1.Log on as Administrator.
2.Click Start and then click Run.
3.In the Run dialog box, in the Open box, type regedit and then click OK.
4.In the Registry Editor console, open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Diagnostics key.
5.In the details pane, double-click the DWORD value for which you would like to increase the logging level.
6.In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 or 2 in the Value Data box. Ensure that the Hexadecimal button is selected. Click OK.

Check the directory service log before raising the logging level. Be sure you understand the Active Directory problem and what you are looking for. To avoid clutter in the directory service log, do not set the logging level higher than 2.
