Creating models of objects is a fun hobby, as well as being important in a number of professions. It is of obvious use in jobs where artistic representations are needed, such as a model maker, or toy and game manufacture.

It is also of use in the creation of trophies and other such objects, as well as in larger scale productions, such as architectural uses. In this sense, model making is essential to get an accurate idea of a building’s layout and general form, where drawn images could not give an accurate representation.

The use of CAD with computers

On this plane of thought, we must refer to CAD. CAD refers to computer aided design, which is simply the use of computers to design an object, so it can be modelled in 3D on a screen without having to physically make a model.

The main advantages of this method over traditional model making, is that you can modify and change aspects and sizes of objects quickly and easily, without having to restart each time afresh. Due to this lack of constraint, this modelling method is preferred by those in the industry today.

However, you may think to yourself ...
... that in order to create a model of this image on the screen, you’d still have to make a model the traditional way, by hand. This would still have the advantage of having a pre formulated final idea to create without having to make changes on the fly. There is however another way of doing this; the use of a 3D printer, such as one of the amazing HP 3D printers.

Incredible printing options

The use of 3D printers allows the model creator to make a 3D image on a CAD program, and then tell the printer to create that object in real world 3D material, exactly as it appears on the screen.; this method allowing the user to create any number of models almost instantly and as a perfect copy of the one on the screen.

You may however ask if 3D is the only option for printed representation of an image of this or any other type, what are the other great ways of creating an image for similar presentation use, or even just as an artistic representation?

Well there are a range of incredible devices like the canvas printer, which allow images to be printed in incredibly fine quality, on a large scale, such as on a large canvas. This allows the user to create an image of their choosing to a very large size that can be used for extravagant presentations, or as a hanging display in an art gallery or similar arena.

As you can see, there are many printing and creation options available to you if you wish to create an image or object on a computer screen and then see it come to life.
