A WAN interface card is specialized network interface card (NIC), which
allows a network machine such as a router to connect and transmit data over the
Wide Area Network. WIC is an integrated channel service unit data (CSU / DSU)
and a digital interface circuits are to provide error correction and monitoring
in real time. WIC is as a rule anchor slot to the network router.

The
dual port serial WAN interface cards (WIC) for Cisco 2600 and 1700 series,
Cisco`s fresh, airtight, high-density Smart Serial connector to abide a wide
variety of electrical interfaces when used with cable appropriate transition.
Two cables are required to support the two ports on the WIC. Each port of the
WIC is a different physical interface and can support different protocols such
as Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) or Frame Relay and Data Terminal Equipment /
Data Communications Equipment (DTE / DCE).

Cisco systems 2-Port
Serial WIC-2T WAN Interface Card
offers dual serial ports ...
... of the Smart
Serial connector. Asynchronous speeds up to support (per port) to 115.2 Kbps,
minimum 600 bps. If you want a speed of less than 600 bps, use the AUX port
instead. Synchronous supports a maximum speed of 8 Mbps per port. Supports 8
Mbps on all ports at the same time 2691, 3725 and 3745. Up to six ports of 8
Mbps each.

Cisco
systems 1-Port Serial WIC-1T WAN Interface Card
provides serial connections
to remote or aged serial network devices such as Synchronous Data Link Control
(SDLC) concentrators, alarm systems, and packet over SONET (POS) devices. A
serial port. Cisco 60-pin connector. This connector is DB-60 on one end and can
be V.35, RS-232, RS-449, X.21 or EIE-530 on the other end to suit your needs
Uses the same cabling as Cisco 2500 and Cisco 7000 series ports. Does not abide
with hot swap, but no damage will occur if equipment is replaced while power is
on.

WIC is common of a normal-sized circuit card that fits an expansion
slot on the router. WIC is available in Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS),
wireless networks, and their fixed networks. WIC was designed to be used with
all common network protocols. data transfer rates vary according to a 56 kbps
dial-up connections to faster WAN support. The rooms are half-duplex,
full-duplex, synchronous and bisynchronous.
Each card has a habitual LED,
labeled CONN for each port, which lights up when associated to the serial port.
When the gate is a terminal (DTE) mode, the CONN LED indicates that Data Set
Ready (DSR), Data Carrier Detect (DCD) and Clear To Send (CTS) was observed.
When the gate is a communication equipment (DCE) mode, it indicates that Data
Terminal Ready (DTR) and Request to Send (RTS) is detected.

In addition,
the Cisco HWIC (High-Speed WAN Interface Cards), and communications, and CISCO
VWICs (Voice WAN Interface Cards), and also as voice and data transmissions.A
NIC provides an interface device and a local network. WIC has an interface
Channel Service Unit / Data Service Unit (CSU / DSU) that enables the board to
commune with a router connected to a WAN. The term is used distinctively in
conjunction with equipment manufactured by Cisco Systems.
