A network interface card, banally known as NIC (Network Interface Cards are
also called Ethernet adapters, network cards, LAN cards, LAN adapters, or NIC
(Network Interface Controllers)), is a device that allows Computers gathered in
a local network or LAN. Networked computers communicate with each other in a
given protocol or arranged on language to assign packets of data between
assorted computers, called nodes. The network interface card acts as an agent
for the device to send and receive data through the LAN.
The Cisco HWIC
Fast Ethernet interface card tile, available as a single port HWIC
(Cisco Systems HWIC-1FE
high-speed WAN interface card) and as 2-port HWIC
(Cisco Systems HWIC-2FE
high-speed WAN interface card), that provide Cisco modular routers with
integrated services other Layer 3 routed ports. The most common language or
protocol for local area networks Ethernet is sometimes called IEEE 802.3. A ...
... less
widely used protocol is Token Ring. When building a LAN, a network interface
card must be installed on each computer on the network and all network adapters
in the network must be of the same fashioning. For example, all cards must be
Ethernet, Token Ring card, or other technology.
Layer 3 Cisco 1 - and 2-Port
Fast Ethernet High-Speed WAN Interface Cards (HWIC) supports the Cisco
Integrated Services Routers offer small businesses and large and medium-sized
businesses and enterprise stream office customers the option to add Layer 3
routed ports for a number of ameliorated bearing, such as the quality ofservice
and rate-limiting features.
The new HWIC arrange additional Layer 3
routed ports with complexion for the motherboard of the integrated services
routers. These Fast Ethernet interfaces can be used for physical separation of
LAN, or WAN interface. Broadband customers can use them to connect to another
provider who offers serviced Ethernet ports.
internal network interface
cards (NIC) can be integrated into the system motherboard or plugged into an
expansion slot inside the device. Specification is the transfer rate, which is
specified in Mbps (megabits per second) or Gbps (gigabits per second). Most
network cards support up to 100 Mbps, while the most expensive Gigabit Ethernet
cards support up to 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps).
The Fast Ethernet HWIC routed
ports have the same features and functionality of the LAN interfaces integrated
platform or integrated services router. Layer 3 connectivity, such as port
control lists (ACLs), IP routing and addressing these HWIC provides functions
equivalent to Fast Ethernet ports integrated into a router.
