Okay, so the title is filled with letters and those who do not know what they are only need to know that these are different types of TVs now marketed. If you are off to buy a TV set, you need to compare the displays coming out from each. There are a lot of differences: quality, brightness, clarity and costs.

What you are probably used to is the plasma TV which is big and bulky. When LCD first came out it was flat, very expensive and the quality of picture not so good. The display was dark and from other angles except front meant you could not see the images. But since then, LCD technology has matured for the better and plasma was literally kicked off from the top slot.

Then the movies and TV networks changed their technology as well with the introduction of HD or high-definition TV. Some of the older plasma could not handle the images and they were constricted. When in the past plasma could handle the refreshing of the screen, with HD TV this changed.

Plasma is so much cheaper but since LCD quality standards have improved, the quality of images is clearly on the side of LCD today. And then, LED came out.

LED ...
... is light emitting diode technology causing a brighter and cooler light. It also eats less electricity. But the screens used are still LCD or liquid crystal display. So now there is a choice between LCD flat TV and the LED flat TV. Is there a big difference? The answer is a yes, and a no.

Yes, there is a lot of difference. LED has brighter lights resulting to clearer and brighter pictures. The back lighting at the back and on the edge of the LCD screen is also smaller and thinner so the LED flat is actually flatter than the LCD flat, by a few millimeters.

No, LCD flat and LED flat still uses the same screen, LCD. In the older versions the LCD had trouble with the darkness issue, but since then and since LEDs, these issues have been corrected. Now, most LCD and LED are indistinguishable except for one very obvious thing – the cost.

The cost of LED TVs is staggering while the LCD and plasma prices have gone down.
So if you are choosing between the three, it is really a matter of economics – which can you afford. When it comes to quality, hands down it is a toss up between LCD and LED. It’s your choice.
