Drowsiness is one of the most common problems faced by drivers when they are into long drives. This is not because the highways are too boring but because the human body eventually wears down as the hours go by. As the driver feels drowsy, he or she might place the lives of other car occupants as well as those of other motorists in danger. This is because drowsy driving could lead to vehicular accident. Due to these things, there is a great need to call the driver’s attention whenever he or she needs to stop, take a short break or take a nap.

This particular need was also realized by Mercedes Benz and as a result, they invented the ATTENTION assist system that would eventually be a standard feature for all their expensive and cheap new car models. With this specific feature, drivers will be regularly reminded by the ATTENTION assist system to take a short break when the system thinks it is proper so as to avoid possible collisions and accidents.

In case you are wondering how the Attention assist do this, the answer is quite simple. The ATTENTION assist uses a ...
... lot of sensors that observes the driver’s driving performance as soon as he or she starts the car and take this for a drive. The sensors take a lot of preliminary data that determines the driver’s energy level such as his lane changes, use of signals as well as controls, and the manner of steering. The data obtained during the first few minutes of driving will then be stored on the system and will serve as a basis if the driver suddenly becomes drowsy causing him to deviate from the driving behaviors that were recorded earlier.

If the ATTENTION assist system realizes that the driver is drowsy or there was a sudden change in his driving patterns, the system would eventually call the driver’s attention to stop for a while and do whatever it takes to revive his driving attention. What usually happens is that the ATTENTION assist would usually display a message such as “take a brake” together with a warning sound to catch the driver’s attention.

Given the features of the ATTENTION assist of most Mercedes Benz cars, it is quite obvious that this could be a good method to minimize car accidents on the road. This feature should also be taken into consideration by other car makers so as to make the cars that they sell through auto loans or cash basis safer than before.
