A host of recommendations and task groups have been assembled to help guide RCRA-regulated facilities cleanup their sites and put prevention measures in place in order to meet the 2020 Vision. A recent presentation released by Maria Parisi Vickers, the Deputy Director of the EPA, outlined specific recommendations for RCRA-governed facilities, including the following:

A new way of doing business: Both the EPA and states can develop business models that are focused on achieving environmental results at their facilities by the year 2020. Businesses will need to accept full accountability and responsibility for all of their facilities.

Performance-based bids: Encourage industry by offering performance-based bids. Consultants who work with industry can help spur progress toward the 2020 Vision by offering bids that demonstrate clean, environmentally responsible plans.

Local government participation:Local governments can involve the public in cleanups to encourage communities and neighborhoods to take part in the planning for sustainable waste and materials management.

Explore innovative ideas to help meet the 2020 Vision: Use third-party professionals to help oversee the clean-up process, and enroll RCRA facilities in streamlined state-response programs.
