Dialog Box For A Counter Log, General Tab

Click the Log Files tab, shown in Figure 14-7. In the Log File Type box, select one of the following log free practice IT questions file types-.
Text File (Comma Delimited), to define a comma-delimited log file (,csv extension). Use this format to export the log data to a spreadsheet program.
Text File (Tab Delimited), to define a tab-delimited log file (.tsv extension). Use this format to export the log data to a spreadsheet program.
Binary File, to define a sequential, binary-format log file (.big extension). Use this file format if you want to be able to record data instances that are intermittent—that is, stopping and resuming after the log has begun running. Non-binary file formats cannot accommodate instances that are not persistent throughout the duration of the log.
Binary Circular File, to define a circular, binary-format log file (.big exten?sion). Use this file format to record data continuously to the same log file, overwriting previous records with new data.
SQL Database, to define the name of an existing Structured Query Language (SQL) database ...
... and log set within the database where the performance data will be read or written. Use this file format to collect performance data at an enterprise level rather than on a per server basis.
Click Configure. In the Configure Log Files dialog box, type the name of the folder where you want the log file created in the Location box, or click Browse to search for the folder.
Ensure that the name for the log file appears in the free CompTIA practice tests File Name box.
14.In the Log File Size area, select one of the following:
Maximum Limit, to collect data continuously in a log file until it reaches limits set by disk quotas or the operating system. Click OK.
Limit Of, to collect data up to the maximum size (in kilobytes, up to 2 gigabytes) you specify. Click OK.
15.Back in the Log Files tab, click End File Names With and choose the log file suffix style you want from the list. Enter the start number for automatic file numbering in the Start Numbering At box if you selected nnnnnn in the End File Names With list.
16.Type a comment or description for the log file in the Comment box. This comment appears in the details pane of the Performance console.
17.Select the Overwrite Existing Log File check box if you want to overwrite an existing log file with this log file.
Click the Schedule tab, shown in Figure 14-8. In the Schedule tab of the dialog box
for the counter log, configure the options as described in Table 14-4.
Click OK.
To view a counter log, complete the following steps:
1.Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Performance.
2.Right-click the System Monitor details pane and click Properties.
3.In the System Monitor Properties dialog box, click the Source tab.
4.In the Source tab, shown in Figure 14-9, in the Data Source area, click Log Files,
and then click Add.
To view data from a SQL database, click Database, and then select the system data source name (DSN) in the System DSN list and the set of log files in the Log Set list. To access the SQL database, the system DSN must be predefined, and privileges 70-685 granted to write to the database. The log set must already be created in the database.
