The HTC Desire has become something of an icon in the smartphone arena. It showcases everything good about the Android operating system, and has the hardware to match.

Let’s take a look at what powers this beauty: a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, fuelled by a 1.400 mAh battery, eyes are catered for with an 800x 480 pixel AMOLED screen of 3.7 inches. It features some physical buttons both around the rim and on the front plus an optical trackpad below the screen. It boasts 512 MB of RAM and a microSD slot, in which up to 32GB of additional storage can be achieved.

The HTC Desire has a 5 megapixel camera, doing a great job of snapping images at a proportion of 5:3 widescreen. It takes video as well, with a resolution equal to the screen’s: 800x480 (an upgrade to later Android versions will allows HD video capture in 720p quality). The camera and the LED flash do a fine job when it comes to recording what you see around you: it boasts a tap-to-focus feature as well for user convenience.

While we’re at it, the UI (called Sense) is fantastic: it looks nice, it is easy to use, has very intuitive and useful ...
... apps (like FriendStream). The experience is smooth, with no hiccups experienced. There are live wallpapers as well for eye-candy purposes. There is a Lite version of Flash built-in – this is in accord with Androids support of Flash (in contrast with Apple), which enables users to playback videos and even play games embedded within websites. Leap enables you to view all your homescreens in one go (a bit like Windows’ Aero, or OS X’s way). The onscreen QWERTY keyboard is great; accurate and quick, it features a text highlighting tool for easy copy-paste purposes as well.

As it houses more than half a GB of RAM, it easily handles more applications than its predecessor, the Legend (with only 384 megabytes), but the smoothness is also due to the fast Snapdragon processor. As for battery life, users can comfortably use the phone all day with internet browsing, 3G usage, social networking, camera use, and of course using it to make phone calls!

All in all, the Desire is well founded in case of this device: it looks great, the Sense UI is marvellously quick and smooth, and the screen is amply proportioned and provides great display quality. Naturally more and more people are making their smartphone choices based on available applications and additional downloads; the HTC Desire offers access to Android Market, which boasts over 100,000 apps and counting. This means the HTC Desire offers so much in terms of productivity, entertainment and multimedia, so it is a great choice for any kind of mobile phone user.
