Understanding Laparoscopic Surgery: Procedures, Benefits And Risks
There is a special kind of gastrointestinal surgery that is offered to patients with different health conditions. This is what they call laparoscopic surgery. This is a procedure that can be used to lessen the health risks in a person who is obese. Overtime. It is not only outwardly that the body can be affected by obesity. High blood pressure, diabetes and heart ailments are very common. Other conditions can follow through. The surgery can help alleviate some of the pressure and risks but sadly, you have to live with the rest of the risks that have occurred due to weight problems.
How laparoscopic surgery works?
The surgery uses the laparoscope, a device that comes with a small camera and a series of tubes that are introduced on a small incision. This particular kind of surgery prevents the creation of larger incisions that are done in traditional surgical procedures. The cut is made o on the abdominal wall and tubes are directed to the abdominal area or the pelvis. The surgery can be done on particular conditions like appendicitis, gall bladder removal, endometriosis, ovarian cysts and others. In some cases, several ...
... incisions are made. Once the surgery is finished, the equipment is removed, and the incisions are stitched up.
For weight loss
There are different laparoscopic procedures that can be done for the purpose of weight loss. One is gastric banding and it is a minutely invasive procedure where a silicon band is placed around the stomach and it helps in making the stomach a lot smaller. Therefore, smaller doses of food will make the patient full already. Another one is sleeve gatrectomy and with this procedure, 2/3 of the stomach is stapled. The stomach becomes the shape of a banana or a sleeve, thus the name. There is no reconnecting or rerouting involved in this procedure. Another one is the Roux en Y procedure which is one of the most effective procedures that can also control diabetes well. Stapling is done to form an upper stomach pouch that can help in making the person feel full with little food. The calories and nutrients are absorbed much later. Last of the laparoscopic surgery options is Imbrication which is very mild and less risky. The stomach is folded on itself and it requires 3 incisions. The incisions are actually very small that there is no need to stitch them up.
Though many consider the laparoscopic surgeries are much better and humane options compared to the old practices, there are still some risks at hand. If you do not really need it, you might as well settle with natural weight loss methods. If you wish to undergo this method, talk to a qualified doctor and see if you qualify depending on your health.
