This paper focuses on creating a hypothetical working agreement for a specific scenario. The working agreement has four parts namely assessment, goal setting, contacting and evaluation. The paper will clearly state the key elements and purpose of each of the four parts in the working agreement using this specific case scenario. The case that will be used for assessment, goal setting, contracting and evaluation will be that of Freydia, who is 27 years old and hooked on crack cocaine for four years and as a result, her two children have been removed from her care and given to the mother by Child Protective Services. Freydia attends a drug program with an aim of getting back her children.
Assessment
This is the stage when elaboration and exploration skills are used in assisting in assessing the story from the client. Gathering and analyzing of information about a client is done at this stage in order to tackle the problem (Murphy and Dillion, 2003). It is also good for clinicians to do a structured assessment formally and reasonably to fulfill the purpose of diagnosis, plan treatment and carry out research on the ...
... best specialized services that are needed by the client.
6.2 Assessment
Assessment was started at first level and I asked myself some questions pertaining to why I was doing the assessment and why the client was seeking for help. I also had to ask myself who the client was and who should be involved during their assessment. I also had to outline what I needed to know and the information that needed to be gathered. As a clinician I needed to know how I was to gather this information and the methods to be used. The place for the first initial assessment was to be determined and a plan to tackle the problem formulated. I gathered information on Freydia from interviewing the immediate family, former employees, child protective and herself. The assessment took place in the office and I came up with the following outcome that is listed below.
Assessment outline for Freydia
Clients name: Freydia Matthews
Address: 65432, Boston, MA
Telephone number: 67543212
Gender: female
Age: 27
Religion: committed Christian
Cultural identity: African American
Relationship status: Divorced
Employment: Hair dresser
Education: High school dropout
Training: Beauty and hair dressing
Significant others: Janice Matthews (mother), 64532, Boston MA, Tel 98765
Client’s strengths: A loving mother, who attends church and has a constant source of income from hairdressing. Freydia also has a very close relationship with her biological mother and a network of friends who support her immensely.
Family background: Freydia was born and brought up single handedly by her mother. She has a large extended family that is closely knit and loves her dearly.
Significant developmental history: Freydia was brought up in a large black family by a single mother who taught her to be independent. Janice worked so hard to support Freydia schooling, but she dropped out of high school to get married to a college sweetheart, Chris, who was an accountant. Freydia bore him two children after which she enrolled in a beauty college and learnt hair dressing and beauty therapy. Chris was a womanizer and a wife batterer, leading to a lot of conflict and unhappiness in their marriage. After many years of perseverance and compromises, Freydia couldn’t take it anymore and she opted for a divorce. That was four years ago and she started taking crack cocaine after signing the divorce papers leading to neglecting of her children.
Freydia is physically healthy with the exception of being weak due to constantly taking drugs and not feeding properly. She expresses her problems well and she looks committed towards getting rehabilitated. There is a lot of pain in her eyes and sometimes she feels so helpless. There is also a lot of resentment and bitterness in her voice as she talks about her marriage and losing her children.

6.2 Partializing and prioritize

Clinician: What goals do you think we should have for our work together?
Client: I want to stay clean and quit taking drugs so that I can get back my children and be able to take care of them.
Clinician: What type of thing needs to be done to facilitate this?
Client: I need to go to a rehabilitation centre and enroll in a drug program so as to beat this habit.
6.3 Goal setting

The following is a list of goals that Freydia might use towards beating her addiction.
The specific goal in this case is to ensure that Freydia goes through the drug program and comes out clean ready to rejoin her kids and take care of them. The second objective is to get her to deal with her divorce and the pain that she went through in her marriage since its clear the drug problem started after the end of her marriage to Chris.
It is clear from the assessment that Freydia did not have a drug problem prior to her divorce. Although she went through a lot of untold pain and suffering due to her husbands philandering and battering during their ten years of marriage, she had always found strength in the church and support from her family. The source of her abuse of drugs originated from her marriage breaking down and she seems to have blamed herself for the failure of the marriage. Freydia came from an extended family that bestowed a lot of family responsibilities on women and this is the reason why she blames herself solely for the failure in her marriage. The third objective is for Freydia to attend parenting classes since she has forgotten how to properly take care of her two children. These parenting classes will improve the way she looks after her children as she will be able to take proper care of them. The fourth objective is to ensure that Freydia gets a lot of group support from the church so that she is not tempted to go back to imbibing crack cocaine. The last objective will be ensuring that Freydia gets a job in order to support herself and her children. This is not going to be hard since she is an expert in beauty therapy and hair dressing.
The objective that will be given the highest priority is to get Freydia to attend therapy and help her in dealing with the pain caused by her marriage breaking down which is the cause of her drug abuse. The second priority is to get her to commit to a drug program which will help her in staying clean and beating her addiction. The third priority will be getting her to attend parenting classes to enable her to take better care of her kids. The fourth priority will be getting her into a support group to ensure that she does not slide back into her old habits. The last priority will be getting her a job to ensure that she is able to take care of the children and cater for all their needs.
6.3 List of strengths and resources
Freydia needs to see a therapist and her mother is willing to pay the fee so that she can open up about the pain she feels as a result of her marriage. There is a community based rehabilitation centre within Freydia reach and the second priority will be registering her for a drug program which will help her come clean and go back to her normal life. This drug program will last for eight weeks and progress is expected within this time. She looks very committed since losing her children has jerked her into reality as she has discovered she is about to lose the most important part of her life.
Parenting classes are readily available in the community based shelter within the area. The classes will take place for a span of six weeks. Freydia is a doting, caring mother and she badly wants her children back. Her mother has agreed to accompany her during these classes to give her moral support and this priority can be easily achieved.
Her church is willing to help her and she has been invited to join the single mothers and divorcee support group which is present in the church. This group meets twice a week and the most of the members had a past history with drugs. This group is appropriate since Freydia will get a lot of support from women who have undergone similar hardships.
Two of her former employees are church members who confessed that they never fired her, but she stopped attending work because she was always dazed due to taking crack cocaine. They were both willing to give her back the job as long as she promised to stay clean and attend work regularly.
