Remote Workforce Taking Overm
Not sure if you're noticing the trend but as of late more and more jobs are being done from home. With the rise in cost of gas prices and company overhead many employers are opting for the home-work option. In most cases this is presenting to be a win/win situation for all parties involved. Honestly, when really thinking about it I can't seem to find the downside of such a situation as long as the industry permits. I'm going to go ahead and examine this from both angles, that of the employer and the employee to see if I can find the downside here. This should be pretty easy, let's explore.
We'll start by examining this from the employer position. You're an employer and you're just starting your business. You have a few funds at your disposal but certainly not enough to pay employees (good ones) while keeping lights on and doors unlocked. In fact, you haven't even acquired enough to rent out a space that best reflects your company. What do you do? You stay home and see about operating from there. Wow, seems many of your problems have been eliminated at the gate. Yes, you still have to pay your employees, but you've allotted ...
... money for that and the only lights you're required to keep on are your own and if you can pay your mortgage your business continues. Sounds good to me.
Enterprise Nation founder, Emma Jones drives this point home by stating When starting a business, you want to keep overheads low and customer loyalty high. Achieve this by basing the business at home and work with other self-employed and self-motivated individuals operating out of their own homes, hubs and spaces. Yes, Emma, I certainly agree. Hiring outside staff, maybe even freelancers, to assist with your workload allows for a larger pool of qualified employees to choose from and substantially cuts down on administrative duties. The employer wins.
Now, let's see about the employee. It's 8:45 when your alarm clock goes off but you're supposed to be to work at 9—yikes! No way you'll get dressed and make it through traffic in time for work. Oh, but wait, your job is right there. No need to get dressed, stay exactly as you are. As long as you can have your computer on in 15 minutes you're ready to work. I bet all of you sitting in an office right now just grew envious at the mere thought. This is an ideal situation for stay at home parents and those with many other home obligations. Working from home can also save you tons of money on commute with some studies indicating that home-workers save as much as $20,000 per year. Enticing, isn't it? If you were to consider this option I'd advise that you be sure that you are the type of worker that wouldn't be easily distracted by home happenings. If you can focus, go for it!
Well, I ran through that evaluation and came up with no downside. Here's one for good measure: the downside of working from you is that you'll likely never meet your awesome co-workers! (I tried with that one, really). Working from home seems to be the best idea yet—let's see how long it takes for everyone to catch on to this one (hint hintJ).
