Atlanta Thrashers forward Jim Slater has been selected by his teammates as the club’s nominee for the 2011 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, presented annually by the National Hockey League to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.

Off the ice, Slater participates in various community activities throughout the Atlanta area. This season, he made an impactful donation to Traveler’s Aid of Metro Atlanta, and brought children with cancer to a Thrashers game. He also participated in a Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless event, in which players sorted food, toys and clothes for homeless families to enjoy during the holiday season. For the second consecutive season, Slater was named the co-recipient of the 2011 Gilner-Reeves Community Service Award, which is presented annually to the Thrashers player who not only has made an impact on the Atlanta community, but is willing to commit his efforts and talents above and beyond the call of duty.

The King Clancy Memorial Trophy will be presented along with numerous other accolades at the NHL Awards held at the Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday, June 22.
