The Atrix is the first dual core smartphone to be released by US manufacturer Motorola. In the United States it was the first dual core phone to see release but in the UK it makes an appearance after the LG Optimus 2X, which was awarded that honour in most European and Asian markets. The Atrix offers many advantages over LG's smartphone and also has something interesting features that single it out as a particularly great phone.

In itself the Atrix is a superlative smartphone but it also comes with a number of additional docking ports that extend its functionality even further. There is a laptop docking port that at first appearance seems like a broken laptop. On its own it is lifeless but once the Atrix is slotted into the back it jumps to life, with its own operating system called webtop coming into full swing. Webtop is only activated when the Atrix is placed into the laptop dock and offers a true multitasking OS powered completely by the smartphone's hardware.

These docking ports are optional and even without them the Atrix is a phone that stands head and shoulders above its competition. The Atrix itself is an excellent entertainment device with support for full 1080p video playback, streaming video with YouTube and Adobe Flash support as well as many music features such as the media player on board. The Atrix is also a great device for mobile gaming with access to Android Market and the dual core 1GHz processor combined with 1GB RAM giving it plenty of power to run the most intensive touchscreen games available.

The 4" screen is ideal for gaming and video entertainment, as well as web browsing and comes with a very sharp 540 x 960 resolution. Running on Android Froyo the Atrix also comes with Motoblur, Motorola's user interface, which features excellent social networking integration. Many other email and instant messaging options are available to complement the excellent web browsing with high speed 3G and Wi-Fi available.

Although not the first dual core smartphone to be released into the UK market the Atrix comes with a lot of hardware and software features that will make it stand out as a superb phone for many months to come. The Atrix is ideal for all forms of web activities including general web browsing and more intensive online activities such as streaming video. The Atrix packs a lot of entertainment power while at the same time being a fantastic messaging phone.
