How Do I Decide Between Used Engines And Remanufactured Engines?
Smart consumers want to make repairs that last. They understand that sometimes saving money up front can cost you money in the long run, and therefore try to use the best parts available for their vehicle repairs. When these customers need to replace their engines, they have to decide whether used engines a remanufactured engines offer them the best option. The truth is that neither is the right decision every time. Some thought has to go in to the process you have to understand the pros and cons of each engine type. Will discuss the pros and cons here and so you can make the best decision yourself.
First we will discuss the pros of each engine type.
Used engines have several benefits. The first benefit is cost. Used engines simply cost less than any other engine source. Depending on the number of miles they have, used engines typically cost anywhere between one third and two thirds the price of a new were remanufactured engine.
The second benefit used engines offer is OEM quality. Used engines come from wrecked vehicles which means they are an OEM part. Fit ...
... and compatibility are simply not issues; used engines are mass-produced. Thank you Eli Whitney! Typically, used engines have had the best testing possible - they have endured the road.
The pros of remanufactured engines simply cannot be overlooked. A remanufactured engine can be created to fit a need. Since good remanufactured engines are remanufactured using parts that sometimes exceed OEM standards of reliability is excellent. In fact, sometimes remanufactured engines take advantage of significant technical updates.
Used engines aren't a perfect solution. Since used engines come from wrecked vehicles, availability is by chance (no one that I know of causes wrecks to acquire inventory). The older vehicle gets, the less likely it is that there will be a good supply of low mileage used engines. It is somewhat ironic that the best supply of used engines is available early in the life of the vehicle when there is less demand and need for them.
The problems with used engines are actually problems with suppliers, not used engines as a whole. These problems can include improper testing procedures, inaccurate description and inventorying, and outright deception. You can eliminate these problems simply by vetting companies and only dealing with reliable sources.
Remanufactured engines have unique cons to them. The big one is price. Remanufactured engines are expensive but they are properly manufactured. Core returns can be difficult to deal with and sometimes leave customers feeling frustrated. Finally, remanufactured engine testing is inconsistent across the industry. Some companies perform excellent tests and have very minimal come back while other companies, typically to lower-cost companies, do almost no testing and have a very high come back rate.
About: - To summarize, used engines have advantages in price, testing, and OEM conformity but are typically only the best option for vehicles of recent manufacture. Remanufactured engines have a higher price and are better option for older vehicles, especially those vehicles with poor availability of used engines.
