Which Trustee Segment Do You Fit Into In The Smsf Sector

Recent research by CoreData on behalf of SPAA and Russell Investments (online research conducted in November and December 2010 canvassed the views of 1331 Australian consumers) has named three new segments of SMSF trustees in need of advice. In addition, the research findings were that 35% of SMSF trustees sought high-level ideas, 34% partially relied on advice, and 26% relied exclusively on financial advisors.
There are a number of behavioural traits by trustees, including the need to control their SMSF investments and their future. In defining the respondents to the latest survey the segments have been renamed as "Controllers", "Coach Seekers" and "Outsourcers".
Controllers are investors who want information, want to make their own decisions, and in many cases will do their own research. This segment made up 20% of the superannuation population and 40% of them had a SMSF. Their need for information is high.
Coach Seekers have a d-i-y approach. They want to be able to make their own decisions, want affirmation that the decisions they are making are correct and seek help to validate their decisions. ...
... Research shows that Coach Seekers make up 30% of the population and 40% of them have a SMSF. For those Coach Seekers that did not have a SMSF, 25% indicated that they would set up a SMSF within two years.
Outsourcers are investors who are often driven by decisions based on fear, so are in need of great assistance. They are investors who just want the work done for them. The research showed that this group made up 50% of the population and 14% of them have a SMSF.
