Super Amoled Offers Great Quality On The Brilliant New Samsung Omnia 7
The launch of the new Windows 7 Mobile operating system has seen a barrage of impressive new models hit the UK marketplace. The problem is however choosing between these handsets thanks to Microsofts strict guidelines as to the specification that all of these models feature. So exactly how do you pick the best from these seemingly identical models? Well a good place to start would be by taking a look at the displays on offer, after all this is what you will be looking at every time you use the phone, whether it is to browse the web or send a message. So taking this into account, one model does seem to stand out thanks to the excellent screen technology on offer, and that is the Samsung Omnia 7.
Samsung have opted for Super AMOLED technology for the display on this phone, rather than TFT and Super LCD found on many of the competitors offerings, and this means the Samsung really does excel at picture reproduction and general clarity. The term is short Super Active Matrix Light Emitting Diode and it differs from traditional mobile displays in a couple a mahor ways. Firstly, rather than relying upon a separate touch ...
... panel located on top of the screen itself, this technology merges the two elements together, helping to poduce a screen that brings a new meaning to the term "wafer thin". The screen also has a positive effect on the battery life of the model, enabling the Omnia 7 to give the user aver 6 hours of 3G talktime. The most important element of the screen however is its quality, and when you pick up this handset for the first time, the colour reproduction and detail on show will grab your attention immediately. Despite resolution being the same as many comparable phones, the Super AMOLED technology gives this model a boost by not only improving on viewing angles, but also making the screen much more effective in daylight conditions, an area where LCD screens have traditionally struggled.
So if the screen technology found on the Samsung Omnia 7 is so great, you may ask why it has not been adopted by other brands like HTC. The issue with this is that Samsung themselves developed this screen, and the demand for models that incorporate it has been so high that there are not enough units produced to satisfy the demand of other manufacturers. Most of this shortage can be attributed to the Galaxy S handsets, which have now topped over 10 million units in sales figures. This has left these brands turning towards the Sony produced Super LCD variety to fit into their devices, but it certainly seems the system used on the Samsung that wins all of the plaudits.
There is obviously much more to a mobile phone than the type of screen it uses. On the windows 7 platform however, there are so few models that are all very similar, it comes down to areas such as this to help in forming opinions, and luckily Samsung certainly hold the trump card with their own, excellent quality technology.
The Samsung Omnia 7 and the HTC Desire S are available now.
