If only the Wright Brothers had a clue of what airplane flight would become! Flight training has become a multi-million dollar industry because flight has over taken all other means of transportation methods for long distance travel. It is the most used mode of travel for both leisure and commercial transportation. Air travel has been reduced some during the recent recession and vacations have been moved to the back burner for many families but air travel will never go away. It is still the most cost effective method of travel. If you are one of the millions of people who fear flying you may be best served by learning more about how airplanes work. Most often learning about something reduces your fears. It’s usually the people who are afraid of flying that say flying is dangerous. Here are some things to consider if you believe pilot training isn’t thorough enough to make your flight a safe one.

For pilot training, even for entry level pilots, they must have between one thousand and fifteen hundred hours in flight during training. That equals out to somewhere between 42 and 63 full days and nights. Pilots must know ...
... and understand the all of the gauges and other instruments on the dashboard before they even get into the air. The airplane is guided with the finest GPS navigational systems that display as moving maps on LCD screens which makes it even easier for the pilot to know exactly where he or she is and where he or she is going. For take-offs and landings, most planes have rudder systems that steer the plane using the pilot’s feet while they are on the ground. These rudders act as brake and gas pedals much like they do in your car. Most of the major aircraft carriers require a four year college degree along with all additional certifications required for pilot training. The pilot must be extremely dedicated to this career path to complete the amount of training they must have.

Flight training must not be entered in to lightly, in addition to the very demanding schedule of classes, the average airline pilot must pay for their four year college degree in addition to their specialist training costs, which will run approximately $70,000 for the ratings and certifications they must obtain before flying a commercial aircraft. With the knowledge that the pilot is so dedicated and has spent so much time and money learning to do this particular job is a huge commitment. That should make you feel more comfortable with your pilot. You must also consider the obvious advantage of speed in flight. Considering the tremendous savings in time, air travel is often much more cost effective than any other form of travel. Many times with business travel there is no other option with the kind of time constraints on many business meetings.

Use caution when planning flights and compare the fees to other kinds of travel. For instance, taking a train from Phoenix to San Diego will set you back about $300 and the trip will take you about thirty-three hours. Taking a plane for the same distance is only about $125 and will only take you about two hours. When considering the differences between the two, the plane is absolutely the best option.
