The most concerning matter for us today is continuously increasing oil prices. The hike in fuel prices has leaded us to think about other alternatives, which suits our pocket. These nonrenewable resources are not trustworthy; we cannot rely on them much because their reserves are getting depleted due to increasing consumption rate than their rate of formation. The most important fact is that these are polluting our environment. These negative impacts can be eradicated by heading towards use of renewable sources of energy. There are several sources of renewable energy but the most popular ones are solar and wind energy. We can use solar and wind power for home .
Solar power is the most abundant source of power. The daily amount of solar energy falling on earth is sufficient for requirement of whole world. Home solar power is also gaining attention of people to meet their daily energy requirements. To generate solar power at home solar cells are needed which are made up of semiconducting materials. When there is ...
... sunlight due to photoelectric effect electricity is generated. Modern solar power generators produce electricity in cloudy weather also, but in less quantity than on a shiny day.
Using wind power for home requires windmills or wind turbines. The wind turbines consist of rotor blades, the amount of power generation depends on size of these blades. Longer the blades are greater their diameter is and hence the power generation is more. These wind turbines and windmills are effective only in places with high wind speed. Moreover, to take full advantage wind turbines it should be fitted to large towers.
These sources for generation of home solar power and wind power not only saves electric bill but also can earn you money. By connecting your power system to National Grid, you can sell the surplus power generated to electric companies and they will pay you. In case, your power system does not gives you as much output as needed by you then you can draw energy from National Grid. The amount of energy received by earth from sun in a day is much higher than what is required by whole world in a year. Therefore, if we use this gift by nature judiciously then we can not only cut down the usage of nonrenewable sources of energy but also help in decreasing pollution.
