Have you ever felt that you cannot relax and be comfortable in your room while the lights are on?

Did you ever have to shut your eyes for a while the moment you enter your room because the lights were too intense?

Did your friends repeatedly make you suggestions to modify the bulbs and lights of your house or office?

If any of the above question's answer is yes, then you seriously need an interior makeover as far as lighting arrangements are concerned. But before you make your move, we would like to make you aware about some basic details of the interior designing and what impact they can make.

There are four main types of lighting:
(1)Wall Lighting
(2)Floor Lighting
(3)Ceiling Lighting
(4)Table Lamps Lighting

(1) Wall Lighting

Walls are the most important elements of interior decorations. They cover the maximum of the vision spectrum of human eye. Because of high visibility, the wall lights become an essential element of the lighting aspect as well. Basically the wall lights are not meant for intense illumination purpose. Hence the intensity ...
... of the lights must be controlled, or else they might prove to be 'scene-spoilers'.

Based on the focus object and positioning, wall lights can be of five types:

Mirror Lights: This is a special category of wall lights. The key objective of mirror lights is to focus on the person standing in front of the mirror. Mirror lights have to balance the distribution of the intensity of the lights between the mirror and the person. If the focus is more on the mirror, the person will not be clearly seen. If the focus is more towards the person, the background will become dark and the mirror will lose its impact. Also the lights must not be very intense as they might hurt the eyes of the person standing in front of them.

Wall Surface-mounted Lights: These are the type of wall lights which are mounted or fixed on the surface of the walls. They are usually used to emphasize on the elements of wall like posters or designs. They are usually tilted towards the wall or have a light diffuser to avoid the intense light from falling on the eyes of the people. These lights have more intense bulbs to focus the details of the target design or pattern.

Wall Recessed Lights: These wall lights are actually grafted inside the wall surface by digging some space. Mostly any part of these lights are not visible above the level of wall. They directly face towards the center of the room and hence are small and less intense lights. They are commonly used for 'vacuum filling' on the blank spaces of the wall.

Picture Lights: This type of wall lights are used to highlight and emphasize on pictures and paintings. They are basically a sub-category of wall surface- mounted lights. They are fairly intense and face towards the pictures on the walls. The angle of the picture lights must be properly oriented or else the light's reflection from the glass frame of pictures and paintings might hinder their visibility.

Work Bench Light: This type of wall lights are commonly called 'study lights' and used as an alternative to study lamps. They are also a sub-category of wall surface- mounted lights. They are facing towards the floor and are fairly intense lights.

(2) Floor Lighting

This is the most recently developed category of interior lighting. Since years, lights were always placed on the ceilings and walls. Later, inspired from the theater's stage lightings that were placed on the floor facing towards the actors; interior designers understood this new dimension of lighting up things from ground level. Till today, the main use of floor lamps is done in outdoor lighting as there is lack of strong ceiling's support most of the time.

(3) Ceiling Lighting

The ceiling lighting is the most oldest form of lighting. Recollect the royal times when one giant and shiny chandelier would light up the entire main hall of the palace. Those were a type of ceiling lights. Lets have a look at the types of ceiling lighting in detail. Ceiling lights are the most intense out of all the interior lights as their main job is to illuminate every element of the room.

Ceiling Surface- mounted lights: This type of ceiling lighting involves lights which are mounted or fixed on the surface of the ceiling. Usually these types of lights are used when any design or pattern on the ceiling has to be highlighted.

Ceiling Recessed Lights: This type of ceiling lighting needs fixing the lights in the surface of the ceilings. They are lesser intense than ceiling surface mounted lights and are usually planted in a row. They are commonly used in corporate offices and places where the availability of the vertical height is limited.

Suspension Lights: They are a sub- type of ceiling surface mounted lights. They have an unusually long stalk or string through which they are suspended. They are usually used when there is plenty vertical space in the room and a beautiful designer chandelier piece to suspend. They are also used under the domes.
