What Is Forensic Psychology?

Forensic psychology is a rapidly growing field that emphasizes the connection between psychology and the law. Forensic psychologists often work with law enforcement officials to help understand the criminal mind and to help create intervention or rehabilitation programs for criminals. As such, forensic psychologists work in a variety of environments, including prisons, rehabilitation centers, police stations, government agencies, private practices, schools, and many other locations.
Educational Programs for Forensic Psychologists
In order to become a forensic psychologist, students must complete at least a post-graduate program in the field of psychology. Many schools now are offering specializations in the field of forensic psychology, and these departments are growing rapidly as the degree becomes more popular. Other students may choose to combine their studies in psychology with a degree in criminal justice, and others go on to law school. The coursework in these programs is designed to teach students about the legal system, law enforcement, consultations, and proper program analysis. Since many forensic psychologists ...

There are several post-graduate Forensic Psychology Programs available for students interested in forensic psychology, including master's degree programs, PhD programs, and graduate certificate programs. Students are able to choose an area of emphasis, such as clinical psychology, correctional psychology, or data analysis and assessment. Others may also work in places like universities, public or private school systems, or law firms to help others find the best way to deal with criminal behaviors. Each of these areas of study allow students to use their knowledge to help law enforcement officials as well as criminals in the justice system.
