Wood Nest Furniture: The Practical Solution
Many of us these days live in small apartments, where space is tight, especially in cities. We look for space-saving devices and try to make the most of every centimetre. But there are times when we also need a good amount of surface area – for crafts, hobbies, parties, or simply putting a few cups of coffee on when we have friends over!
A really practical solution to the need for both saving space and creating surface areas when necessary is to buy wood nest furniture. This is a set of tables that fit one inside the other and usually come in the form of two or three tables of different sizes. You can tuck them all away in a corner or use as a bedside or sofa side table for convenience, then when you need a space to work on, or to serve food or drinks on, slide the smaller ones out from underneath.
Wood nest furniture comes in all shapes and sizes. For optimum space, choose a set with three or even four tables included. Long John tables, for example, include a long coffee table with two or three smaller ones underneath. Or a simple nest can contain three tables of three different sizes. And in terms of style, ...
... well, the world’s your oyster!
You can buy traditionally or modern styled wood nest furniture, in all sorts of wood, from pine to oak and everything in between. A popular choice recently has been mango wood; it’s a sustainably resourced wood from parts of Asia, and comes from the trees that produce mango fruit, when they become too old to produce good fruit, At that stage, the older trees are harvested for their wood, and new young trees planted that will mature to produce fruit. The wood from the older trees is a beautifully grained wood, tough, but easily carved. Thus furniture makers can produce either traditional tables with turned legs and carved features, or modern, solid mango wood tables that are easily looked after and fit in with other contemporary furniture.
A solid mango wood table will last well, and look good mixed in with other kinds of wood, as well as soft furnishings and pretty much any style of home. Simple, smooth surfaces are easy to clean and keep looking fabulous, and the grain gives them a lovely rich texture to look at. And of course, as with any wood they have a fantastic warm feel to the touch. Mango wood comes in a variety of colours, from light to dark and yellow-gold to pink-tinged. It can be stained to match well with dark oak, mahogany, teak, pine or any other wood and is both light and solid. Add that to the fact that you know you’re buying a piece of furniture that comes from a sustainable forest, and benefitting the environment and local workers and their families, and you have a winning combination. Next time you’re shopping for occasional tables, or coffee tables, take a look at mango wood. It’s really very good!
