Video conference is also known as Video teleconference. It is a set of interactive telecommunication Technologies which allows two or more locations to or more locations to interact via two way audio and video transmission simultaneously. It has also been called visual collaboration and is a type of groupware. Video conferencing use telecommunications of audio and video to bring people at different sites together for a meeting. This can be as simple as a conversation between two people in private offices(point to point) with more than one person on large rooms at different sites. Video Conferencing can be used to share the documents, computer displayed information and white boards.
During the first manned space flights, NASA used two frequency (UHF or VHF) links, one in each direction. TV channels routinely use this kind of video conferencing when reporting from distant locations, for instance. Then mobile links to satellites using specially equipped trucks became rather common. This technique was very expensive, though, and could not be used for applications such as telemedicine, distance education, and business meetings. ...
... Video conferencing started as early as 1964 when visitors to the world’s Fair in New York were witness to a new contraption called the Picture phone. The idea of joining voice and video was first demonstrated in 1956 by AT & T, the telephone company founded by Alexander Graham Bell himself. Now instead of first hearing a distant voice at the other end of the Telephone line, a caller would be able to see the person as well.Attempts at using normal telephony networks to transmit slow-scan video, such as the first systems developed by AT & T, failed mostly due to the poor picture quality and the lack of efficient video compression techniques. The greater 1MHz bandwidth and 6 M bits bit of picture phone in the 1970s also did not cause the service to proper. It was only in the 1980s that digital Telephony transmission networks became possible, such as ISDN, assuring a minimum bit rate for compressed video and audio transmission. During his time, there was also research into other forms of digital video and audio communication. Many of these technologies, such as the Media space, are not as widely used today as video conferencing but were still an important area of research. One of the first commercial video conferencing systems sold to companies came from PictureTel corp. who had an initial public offering in November 1984. Video conferencing systems throughout the 1990s rapidly evolved from very expensive proprietary equipment, software and network requirement, software and network requirements to standards based technology that is readily available to the general public at reasonable cost.
In the 2000s, video Telephony was popularized via free Internet services such as Skype and ichar, web plugins and on-line Telecommunication programs which promoted low cost, albeit low-quality, video conferencing to virtually every location with an internet connection. In May 2005, the first high definition video conferencing systems, produced by life size communication, were displayed at the Interop trade show in Las Vegas, Nevacla, able to provide 30 frames per second at a 1280 by 720 display resolution. Polycom introduced its first high definition video conferencing system t the market in 2006. Currently, high definition resolution has now became a standard feature, with most major suppliers in the video conferencing market offering it.Video conference was developed to bring together intelligence video and video analytics, innovators with senior executives from consumer, medical, automotive, security , industrial, retail and other industries that are looking to develop applications and services that will drive the intelligent video revolution.
