While many countries around the world have decided to ban gambling within their border, Sweden has not take hold of the same ideas. There is without doubt a vast sum of money available to countries that are willing to allow betting to take place in their country. The country is able to impose taxes and other things that will allow the country to take home a share of the potential revenue available in gambling.

While all gambling seems to be popular no matter where you go in the world, sports betting is becoming one of the more popular forms of betting. It seems that fans get even more into the games that take place if they have money on the line at the same time. There are many people that go broke from putting all of their money on the table, in hopes that their team will come through with them.

While gambling can get out of control, Sweden has taken some steps to control gambling within their country. ... Commission. Sweden was lucky to be one of the 7 Member States that were chosen to host sports betting. The other countries that were chosen to host sports betting were Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Germany and Denmark.

After making Sweden one of the member states that was allowed to practice sports betting, the European Commission had some problems. Sweden was one of three countries that were issued a warning for their unethical gambling practices within the state.

Sweden, Greece, and France were reportedly inhibiting the competition among the gambling markets within their states. By doing this they were creating monopolies that would dominate the gambling scenes within their respective countries. If Sweden decided not to change after the warning they were warned that they would be taken to a court of law to settle the issues.

In 2008 there were proposals made that Sweden allow sports betting to take place online. By doing this the country would be able to increase the amount of revenue available through betting. People would not have to travel to make bets and they would be more likely to do it through internet services.

Online gambling was officially legalized within Sweden on the 11th of May in 2008. The online gambling still was and is under the watch of the European Union. Interestingly, there is a ban on advertising on online sports betting within the country. There are people that would like to overturn that ban, but it is currently in place in the country.

The most popular sports for betting within Sweden are ice hockey, football and trotting.

There are still people within the country that believe that online gambling is a bad idea. There are ethical issues that pose the question of whether or not the government will be able to keep people that are unable to make their own decisions(young children or mentally disabled individuals) from blowing all of their money or their family’s money on sports betting.
