Tumbled tiles appear and feel close to the natural features of the stone. Brushed tiles are rough and dull colored. To protect tiles from staining, a manufacturer will seal the tile. Sealing fills in the holes and spaces on the surface of the stone. Marble and travertine are porous so they suck up liquids easily.
