Sony's Sdx4-200c For Efficient Back-up
The Sony AIT-4 tape format provides benefits to its customers and has massive capacity to hold large volumes of data (200GB native, 520GB compressed). Sony AIT4 data tape cartridge SDX4-200C has new and innovative features with high capacity and transfer speed of 24 MB/sec with AIT-4 tape drive. The AIT tape family provides versatile and efficient backup tape solutions to its users with low operational cost.
The AIT (advanced intelligent tape) tape format was created by Sony in 1996 and since then it has been leading backup tape technology providing its users best and cost effective solutions. AIT is a reliable and robust backup tape medium that gives best results for storage management (mid-range), multimedia real time data acquisition, storage (transportable) applications and unattended backup(digitaldevicesonline). The AIT tape format allows easy integration due to requirements of low power, variety of interfaces and compact footprint. The new features of AIT are WORM, increased functionality, reliability and performance. ...
... WORM technology is also added to the AIT tape format to increase its efficiency and performance. The Sony AIT tape products are successful because of its advanced features and are mostly utilized by the financial industry, government agencies and other enterprises worldwide.
Sony has added new technologies to the AIT tape family since 1996 (debut year of AIT tape format). The most powerful feature of AIT tape technology is the “AME Advanced Metal Evaporated” and its superior performance and reliability. The technology of AME was enhanced and AME-II was introduced in the AIT-4 tape format. AME-II technology helps the media of AIT4 to achieve higher data density, performance and durability. To ensure the recovery of the data in case of human error, system malfunction or disaster, there must be a backup of the data kept aside from the system. Tape is utilized by most of the systems as media for the operation. The data is not protected once it is written on to the tape. No passwords or access control is involved with the information. By the use drive form factor of 3.5 inches and small media format of 8mm, the tape drives and media of AIT-4 fulfill the commitment of Sony to double the transfer speed and recording capacity from one generation of AIT to the next. With every generation of the AIT tape format, Sony has made enhancements and its road map includes the AIT-6 tape format to be released in future. All the generations of AIT are backward compatible (both read & write) with its previous versions(digitaldevicesonline)
. The AIT tape drive of the 4th generation can read & write the AIT3 media and read the media of AIT-1 & AIT-2. An environment that is virtually free from contamination is provided because of the durable media of AME that reduces the requirement of periodic cleaning. Therefore, the AIT tape format is able to deliver excellent backup results and high performance.
