The Andaman Islands are a cluster of Indian Ocean archipelagic islands in the Bay of Bengal. There are altogether 572 islands in this Union Territory of India, of which only approximately 38 are permanently inhabited. Centuries of isolation have resulted in pristine beaches, incredible coral and marine life, mangrove-lined creeks and evergreen forests. It is one of the best places for the aqua adventure junkies with island camping, snorkeling and scuba diving as the real attractions here.

It is ideal to travel between the months of November-April, although mid-December to mid-January is high-season. The temperature ranges between 22-33 Degrees Celsius throughout the year and the island experiences spells of showers from June to September and from November to mid-December. Most well-known tour operators offer holiday packages to Andaman Islands, which average about five nights and will necessarily include Port Blair and Havelock Island. The most popular packages offered by top travel companies can be compared at Polama – a holiday comparison portal, where you can compare tour packages easily including Andaman packages ...
... before you decide to buy one. Resort and hotel options at Andaman Islands are an easy choice to make, simply because the island boasts of very few hotels – mostly a handful of eco resorts and a few other small budget hotels.

Most tourists start their trip at Port Blair, which for centuries was tagged as a penal settlement. Indians look up to Port Blair as a souvenir of the independence struggle against the British rule. For them, the Cellular Jail is a must visit since it is a glorious reminder of the past and dearly loved Indian martyrs. There is also a ‘sound and light’ show in the evening, which attracts a lot of crowd. Other places to see in and around Port Blair and South Andaman are the Chatham Saw Mill - one of the oldest and largest saw mills in Asia; Mount Harriet - the second highest peak in the Islands and Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park at Wandoor for marine life activities like snorkeling and glass bottomed boat rides. Ross Island is an essential day trip from Port Blair, which was once the administrative headquarters for the British. One of the other half-day trips is to Viper Island which is the original site of the jail, before the Cellular jail was built.

Another popular destination in most Andaman tour packages is to Havelock Island. Located about 54km northeast of Port Blair, each of the village on this island is referred to by a number. Radhanagar Beach or No 7 is one of the most gorgeous beaches, which is also popular for its water sports. It was also named as the ‘Best beach in Asia by Time Magazine. If you are looking for serene beaches, head to Neil Island, where beaches are numbered from 1-5. Beach No 1 is the most popular haunt with tourists which is also the most easily accessible among the others. You can know more at www.polama.com.
