Why Do People Have So Much Trouble Sticking To A Diet?
It is no secret that following a diet is difficult. But, sometimes, the person on the diet is not to blame. It's the plan they have chosen that is causing the issue. You have to recognize this and figure out ways to make sure you can stick to the plan you choose. Here are some of the main reasons so many people have trouble sticking to a diet.
Lots of people who want to diet choose a diet plan that is designed incorrectly. A lot of the plans you hear about are bogus and are there just to try and get your money. There are a few that work well, but very few people follow these because they seem a little harder. You need to find a plan that is well designed and meets your needs so you can stick to it long term.
An extreme diet is rarely the answer. Everyone wants instant gratification. They want to be thin right now. But, this is rarely possible. You need to spend time and effort losing weight. A diet will not fix all your problems in a week. If you plan on eating 700 calories a day for a month to lose weight, you will be unsuccessful and your body will fight back. ...
... You need to find a plan that is not too extreme and that you can stick too. It works a lot better this way.
A successful diet has to include some flexibility. It doesn't matter how much discipline someone has, they will mess up once in a while. But, if a diet does not account for that, it can be a major issue. Something that happens all too often is someone diets successfully for a week or two, has one bad day where they eat too much food or miss a workout, and start to binge on junk food. They put on all the weight they lost and then some. This needs to be avoided. If you have a flexible diet that allows for slipups, you will not have this issue.
Finally, one of the main reasons why people have trouble sticking to a diet is because the plan they are following doesn't follow their lifestyle and doesn't fit in to what they are currently doing. Turning your life upside down for the sake of a diet just doesn't work very well. For example, if you eat meat every day and hardly exercise; becoming a vegetarian and doing 5 hours of cardio per day will not work for you. You need to choose a diet that is similar to what you currently do and makes only small changes in a gradual manner.
While a lot of people fail to stick to a particular diet because they have no discipline. Sometimes the design of the diet in general has a lot to do with it. Too many people make the mistake of choosing a diet that will not work for them from the beginning, and wonder why they end up failing. Don't make this mistake; work hard and choose a diet that you can actually follow. It will make the process so much easier.
