Htc Flyer : Bringing New Levels Of Competition
The Flyer is HTC's first entry in to the touchscreen tablet market and in terms of size is placed alongside the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, with a 7" display. This makes the Flyer one of the more transportable tablet devices on the market, and much easier to carry around with you than the larger 10"+ devices. While there are now dual core tablets making their way onto the market, the HTC Flyer stands somewhere in between the first and second generation of tablets in terms of processing power, with a 1.5GHz processor on board.
Like most non-Apple tablets, the Flyer runs on Google Android Gingerbread, which has been customised with HTC's Sense user interface. This interface was made famous on popular HTC phones such as the Desire and Desire HD. The interface is pretty smooth and slick thanks to the 1.5GHz processor and 1GB RAM present. The 7" screen, while being smaller than many tablet displays, still comes with a very high 1024 x 600 screen resolution. The Flyer features two cameras, a 5 megapixel rear facing camera and a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video calling. The rear facing camera comes with excellent features such as autofocus, and the front facing camera can be used in conjunction with video messaging services like Google Talk.
The media player on board the Flyer comes with a fantastic range of support for both music and video. You can also record your own sounds and videos with the Flyer, and the device comes with 32GB internal storage and another 32GB available through microSD cards. The Flyer also comes with a 3.5mm audio jack which can be used for headphones.
The web browser comes with HTML and HTML5 support, and also includes support for Adobe Flash. The Flyer comes with built in support for the popular social network Facebook as well. The Flyer comes with great support for email including POP3, IMAP and Microsoft Exchange.
The Flyer has some excellent messaging options under its wings and is ideal for general web browsing and emails. Flash and YouTube support mean that you can enjoy streaming video content and the front facing camera allows you to video conference. Many apps are available for the Flyer through Android Market and the tablet is an excellent device for touchscreen gaming, with a high degree of processing power and hardware acceleration. At 7" the Flyer is placed into a category that many find to be more comfortably sized, but its processor makes this tablets properly positioned between the first and second generation of devices.
