Mykonos, The Gateway To Greece

Mykonos is one of the many islands which are in Greece. The island is separated from the rest due to its cosmopolitan character. The other interesting things about the island are night life as there are a number of bars and night clubs, sandy beaches, at times these beaches play an important role as beach parties are held here, which are a major tourist attraction.

The total area of the island is forty one square miles and is elevated at three hundred and forty one meters at the highest point. The island is made up of granite. The actual habitants are not sure of but approximately thirty thousand people live here. As it's an island and surrounded by sea it has to rely on desalination of water for the requirement of its population.

The island has an international airport four kilometers away from the main city. Cruise ships often anchors near the port because of it being a prime tourist destination.

Archaeological finds have shown the existence of mankind from the eleventh century BCE. The island was very poor since people had to rely on fishing and stock breeding for their survival, which was very difficult ...
... in the harsh land. Soon many industries like the ship construction started.

The tourism industry started in the year nineteen fifty and since it's introduction plays a dominant role in the economy of Mykonos. The people of the island leaving here have double opinion about this; it may save the economy of the island but has taken more.

There are number of land marks to visit in this island like the Petros the pelican it's an old icon of the waterfront and the official mascot of Mykonos for more than fifty years. The most recognized landmark of the island the windmills which has been there from the sixteenth century.

The other significant landmark is the Agean Maritime Museum which displays the models of ships and narrates the history of the island shipping construction. The famous architectural structure Paraportiani is also located here, which signifies the inner door or secondary door to the medieval period in history.

Mykonos is also known as little Venice due to its architecture. Nightlife is the main tourist attraction due to the beach bars located on the beaches. Top disk jockey from around the Europe comes here to play music during the summers. Cavo Pardiso, Tropicana and the Super paradise are the famous beach bars.
