Provisions Of The Post 9-11 Gi Bill For The Military Mom
Are you a military mom interested in pursuing higher education? Now's the time. The Post 9-11 GI Bill is an effort to pay for the college expenses of veterans, working very similarly to the original GI Bill that was enacted after World War II. The act allows for the 100 percent funding of a 4 year college degree to any veteran who has served at least three years in service after 9-11. The full amount of the stipend depends upon where you end up going to college. Veterans are eligible for full benefits of the bill after three years of service.
Choosing Which Benefits to Use
A military mom is entitled to either the provisions in the Post 9-11 GI Bill or another veteran benefit such as the Montgomery GI Bill. If you are eligible for the Post 9-11 GI bill and two or more other education benefits you must make an irrevocable choice to give up one of the education benefits. If you choose not to take advantage of the GI bill now, you may do so later in the future, so take some time to make up your mind. In most cases, a military mom will get the greatest benefits from the Post 9-11 GI bill, but this isn't always the case. ...

The Post 9-11 GI bill allows for full tuition and fees to be paid directly to the school that are not to exceed the tuition and bill for the most expensive state institution of higher learning. The bill also allows for a monthly housing allowance for a military mom that has an e-5 status and dependents, with the amount determined by the zip code of the school you are attending. The bill also allows for an annual book stipend of $1,000.
However, in some locations you might get less through the Post 9-11 GI bill than you would under the Montgomery GI Bill. Some states also don't require veterans to pay tuition at selected state colleges, with the bill only paying for housing expenses and the book stipend. It's also important to understand that the amount paid under the bill depends on how many years the military mom served.
The Post 9-11 GI bill can enable a military mom to earn the education she needs to further pursue a career. Not all veterans are in the military for a long term career. These opportunities for education allow veterans to move on beyond their service and attain their dreams. It's a way of saying thanks while educating the future of America's work force.
