Baby walkers are an excellent way to keep a baby and its parents well entertained! They are a fantastic way of helping a baby take its first step. they are a joy to watch. Babies about a year old (5-17 months) can be provided with walkers. They are extremely popular among parents and millions are sold every year. However, some find it unsafe, though the risks are few. Although walkers are made according to safety standards, it is always advisable to have a personal check too. Optional toys, lights and other accessories are attached to make them look attractive to the baby.

Walkers are difficult to use on carpets. Make sure the walker you buy is suitable for the kind of flooring your home has. Since walkers allow babies to reach places they never could, it is important to make sure that the house is made baby proof. This can be ensured by placing dangerous objects like knives, candles, glassware, perfumes, insecticides, electrical devices and cords, stoves, etc. at an inaccessible height. Stairways must be closed, as most accidents occur when a baby has access to the stairs while in a walker.

Though walkers seem fun, they call for extra vigilance from parents, and the baby must never be left unattended while it is in a walker. Before buying a walker, its safety standards must be crosschecked from a reliable source. Their use should be stopped once the child is able to walk without any assistance.
