The Super Bowl is one of the most celebrated events in the sports world. The game features the best team from each conference of the National Football League. The 1974 Super Bowl featured the Miami Dolphins and the Minnesota Vikings.

The Dolphins were the champions of the AFC and they were 15-2 on the season entering the Super Bowl. The Vikings were the NFC Champions and we 14-3 entering the Super Bowl.

The Dolphins were the favored team by 6.5 points entering the game and they definitely felt like they were deserving of the odds. This team had more confidence than most teams that we have seen in the history of the league and they had reason to feel that way.

The Dolphins were led by a solid running game that knew how to get the ball into the end zone. The most famous of the running backs for the Dolphins was Larry Csonka. Csonka was a pounding back that would be a handful for any team that he faced.

Csonka came out strong from the get go. The Dolphins managed to put the first points on the board behind a 5 yard run from Csonka. This 7 point lead was discouraging for the Vikings but they still felt ...
... like they were within a comfortable range at this point in the game.

The Dolphins just refused to slow down and Klick ran for the 2nd touchdown of the game while still in the 1st quarter of play. When the first quarter ended the Dolphins were up 14-0.

The second quarter featured a lot of defensive stops from each team and the only points that managed to make it up to the board were from a field goal from Yepremian. Yepremian kicked the ball in from 28 yards out to put the Dolphins up 17-0. This would be the score entering the 2nd half of the game.

The Vikings needed the first score of the 2nd half if they hoped to take this game, but they were unable to put any points on the board in the 3rd quarter. Csonka continued to carry the load for the Dolphins and pounded in another touchdown from 2 yards out to put the Dolphins up 24-0. The Vikings needed a miracle if they hoped to win this game.

The Dolphins were held scoreless in the 4th quarter and the Vikings finally managed to put some points on the board. Unfortunately the efforts of the Vikings were too little and too late. Tarkenton did manage to put a touchdown on the board with a 4 yard run, but the Vikings still lost the game by a score of 24-7.

Csonka was named MVP of the game with a dominating performance. Csonka finished with 145 yards on the ground on 33 carries with 2 touchdowns. The impressive thing about his game was that his longest run of the game was just 16 yards. He continued to grind out yards again and again for the Dolphins and took a lot of pressure off of the passing game. Griese amazingly only needed to throw 7 passes for 73 yards to lead the team to victory.
