Designating Your Baby's Nursery
As babies and toddlers have no sense of danger everyday items can become a possible threat to their safety. Thus it is precisely this fact that has to make parents very cautious. The place where you and your baby are going to spend the huge amount of time is the nursery. That is why baby safety in this room is paramount. Everything should be taken into consideration, beginning with baby furniture and ending with toys and other baby items.
The nursery
Adopting good baby safety practices, before your baby is born, you can create a safe environment in which you can watch your precious one play, rest and grow throughout his or her infancy.
Decision what room of your house is going to be the nursery for your new baby depends on your observation. You should look around the house and find the one which is light, warm and enough spacious. It is always preferable for the windows to look onto the garden or other quiet place.
Next, do not place any pieces of furniture near the window, as your child grows, he or she might use any item around the nursery as a ladder to look out of the window and it can come to a ...
... bad end. Always bear firmly in mind one of eternal verities 'What they couldn't do yesterday they might be able to do today'. If your nursery is not safe enough spend some time rearranging the room now, do not leave it until later, it can be too late.
While looking for a crib for your baby's nursery it is always preferable to buy a new one even if it is more expensive and you can take all chances to overspend your family budget. You have to be sure your baby's crib is equipped with safety features and they all work properly. Whereas you have decided to get a second-hand cot it's important to inspect it thoroughly for wear and tear of fixtures and fastenings and buy a brand new firm mattress for your baby.
If you have pets and dearly love them do not allow them to sleep in the nursery since baby cribs are lovely warm places for dogs and cats to sleep too. You don't want your baby smothered or scratched by your pet. Pillows, soft toys and comforters should also be removed from the cot before you put your baby down to sleep, they can cause suffocation.
Bumpers pads which are usually used to protect our children should be removed when the baby is able to stand up because they can occur to be dangerous when are used as a step and your baby can fall out of the crib.
The baby cot should be placed far from any of the curtains, blinds cords or any long cords used to draw curtains, because they can become a serious cause of injury for your baby. So they all should be tied well out of your baby's reach. All the hanging mobiles, if they are small, can become choking hazards thus they must be firmly and tightly secured.
Buying socket safety plugs for all accessible sockets in your house you will protect your child from sticking his fingers or other long objects like pencils in.
