Look Over These Ideas On How To Prevent Weeds
If you have a lawn or garden you need to prevent weeds from growing. The weeds can be a bad competitor for your plants when it comes to nutrients. They suck in the nutrients you have provided for your plants by applying fertilizers.
There are two approaches in killing weeds and ensuring that they never grow back. These are organic and non-organic. Non-organic method uses chemicals to prepare for weed killer solutions, which can be bad to your health because there are great chances you are going to inhale the chemicals.
And if you are planting edible vegetables, you might also ingest the chemicals from the spray. These chemicals cannot be destroyed. They live on and affect even the production of the fruits and vegetables.
The organic method to prevent weeds involves natural ingredients and non-toxic approaches. If you wish not to use any product, you can simply pull out the weeds using your hands. Now, you have to ensure that the roots are also taken out.
Also, after pulling out, the weeds must be segregated by placing them in a garbage bag or sack. The seeds of weeds germinate easily. So even if the ...
... weeds are pulled out, but if they stay in the area, the seeds will immediately start germinating on the ground where the weeds are piled up.
After the weeds are pulled out, prepare the soil with organic compost, manure, or other organic soil amendments. These organic products are available in a garden shop or nursery. You have to dig your soil up to one foot and mix the soil with these organic soil amendments.
Mulch prevents the soil temperature from fluctuating, prevents moisture loss, and prevents weeds from growing as well. Mulch too can be purchased from garden shops.
Then you need to roll out a landscape fabric to cover the ground. You can use ground bark, newspaper, leaves, vinca, hypericum, rocks or old carpet. These items prevent weeds from germinating because the soil is shielded and cooled. A 3 to 4-inch thick of mulch prevents growth of weeds.
Then plant your new garden. Some of the plants you can raise are flowers, herbs, vegetables, shrubs, trees, or a combination of these plants. You can plant your garden by poking holes through the ground cover. Water and oxygen can penetrate the fabric but weeds cannot grow through it. Cover the landscape fabric with another layer of mulch or ground bark to improve its appearance.
You can also prevent weeds by keeping your plants healthy. Application of fertilizer ensures that your plants are taking in the essential nutrients. The shrubs, during the growing season, need fertilizers. As these shrubs grow, they provide shade to the surface of the soil, choking weeds even before they establish their roots.
The spacing in between plants is important as well. If you plant your flowers or vegetables too closely, you prevent weeds from growing as you leave no room for them to pop out.
