The Future Of Online Business
No one really knows the future.
However, what some say is that the future is already here, it's just not widely distributed yet.
So where is it?
It's in the hands of the alpha geeks.
They're the early adopters, they're the once who really push the envelope. They're the ones who hack. And that's hacking in the traditional sense.
If they hold the secret shouldn't we be listening to them?
Well no. Because they often get it wrong. Wrong from the point of view of the mass market. And this isn't their fault. Its no ones fault. It's not about blame. It's about how complex the given device is to use. Alpha geeks are able to use devices that are magnitudes more complex then the average person.
Just look at Linux. Put that in front of someone who hasn't used it before and they're going to be mighty confused. Really, put it in front of someone who's only been using it a couple of weeks and that same confusion may still be present.
The thing about Linux though is that it's easy to hack. It's built to be hacked. And the mass market doesn't want to hack. People what immediate results. ...
... People want convenience. A product that convenient can be enough to make it a hit. Look at companies such as Spotify, their product is about convenience. Most people have access to free music via P2P networks and digital vaults, it's not the freeness of the music that people like. It's the convenience of having it in one place with easy access.
And this is the future of online products. And here we're talking about all products that use the internet as a data transmission mechanism -- smart phones, tables, embedded computers.
This is already king in UI/UX design. A complex mash of images and text isn't convenient. It's not very usable. And it doesn't result in popular products.
The relevancy of Google is a good example here. If a search engine returns results that aren't relevant then the user feels frustrated. It's a bad products.
And the future is more convenient then now. Just think what a more convenient Google looks like? It would just take you to the information on the page, the specific image or paragraph. None of this having to search the page yourself nonsense.
