Another term for lactobacillus spores is Bacillus coagulans. It is lactic-acid producing bacteria promoted to the public as probiotic. A probiotic is a microorganism known to be friendly and beneficial to its host when consumed. In today's time, probiotics are a very popular subject of research among scientists and pharmaceutical companies.

As lactic-generating and spore-forming bacteria, the lactobacillus sporogenes by fermentation is able to break down sugars to produce lactic acid. Also, it can germinate, create spores that scatter, which theoretically, brings health benefits. Usually resembling the shape of a rod, bacteria remain in single rods, though they can form chains.

Bacteria thrives at a room temperature between 95F and 122F and at pH level between 5.5 and 6.5. Lactobacillus spores are facultative anaerobes, thus, they create acids by fermentation without producing gas as the end product.

Although most information about this bacterium needs further studies, many pharmaceuticals manufacture dietary supplements to help provide relief for several medical conditions. Lipid disorders are among them. ...
... In pre-clinical experiments made with rats fed with fermented milk and thus contained lactobacillus spores, the rats showed lower serum cholesterol levels as opposed to rats fed on skim milk.

Scientists involved in the study explained that the lactobacillus adheres to the cholesterol in the intestinal lumen, hence, the reduced blood cholesterol.

Digestive disorders are another medical condition that benefit from lactobacillus sporogenes. The bacteria suppress the growth of pathogenic microorganisms in the digestive tract, thereby, restoring the natural gastroinstestinal organisms to their normal level. In this activity, disorders such as diarrhea and constipation are relieved.

If you have been suffering from vaginitis, you might find relief from these bacteria as well. Patients with vaginitis applied the bacteria directly onto their vagina and experience relief from painful symptoms.

Lactobacillus spores are helpful in boosting the immune system. Scientists all agree that the presence of good intestinal bacteria promotes production of antibodies, which are helpful in enhancing the immune system of everyone.

Among the advantages of lactobacillus sporogenes over the other lactobacilli is the sporogenes' ability to tolerate higher temperatures. Thus, dietary supplements and other products made out of these bacteria are cheaper because their processing is cheaper and easier too.

Being able to tolerate higher temperatures also extends the shelf life of the supplement, and makes the bacteria tolerant of acidity of the gastric system. So, once they reached the intestines, many of the bacteria thrive and provide the health benefits. Probiotics are only healthily helpful when they reach the intestines alive.

First discovered in 1933, lactobacillus spores were known as lactobacillus coagulans. For simplification of cataloguing, the bacteria were re-named as lactobacillus sporogenes or spores. A few of its products include dietary soft gel capsules and supplementary drinks which can be taken orally or added as an ingredient to several foods and beverages.

As more studies will soon conclude, the list of health benefits of lactobacillus spores will become longer. Also, before taking any of the dietary supplements from probiotics, it is wise to consult your physician in case you are on medication for another disorder or you may have allergies.
