Throughout our globe, there are amazing structural designs which make every country unique, and easily identifiable. Big Ben in London, the Empire State Building in New York and the Eiffel Tower in Paris give each country their own persona. These are landmarks in each of these cities and they create a great amount of tourism, as many tourists want to experience first hand such breathtaking designs.

So what is there in London and what makes London such an attractive proposition for tourists all around the world? As mentioned earlier, Big Ben, situated right next to the Houses of Parliament, is a major tourist attraction for many. When a television programme or film-maker wishes to indicate a generic location in Britain, a popular way to do so is to show an image of Big Ben, often with a red double-decker bus or black cab in the foreground. Big Ben also sits opposite The London Eye, which has been very popular since its launch ...
... at the turn of the millennium, and was the showcase for the 2011 New Year Fireworks display in London.

One place that can not go without mentioning is the ever famous Buckingham Palace. The Palace, originally known as Buckingham House, is a major tourist hotspot and is the residence for the current Queen of England. Every year some 50,000 invited guests are entertained at garden parties, receptions, audiences, and banquets. The Forecourt of Buckingham Palace is used for the Changing of the Guard, a major ceremony and tourist attraction throughout the summer and winter months in England.

Away from the major tourist attractions is the most popular building in London's main financial district; The Gherkin. The Gherkin is 40 floors high and contains a great deal of structural glazing from top to bottom. Another building in London which is built using structural glass is City Hall, which is the headquarters of the greater London Authority in the United Kingdom.

Other great places for tourists to visit are the popular shopping centres situated all around London such as Oxford Street, Brent Cross, One New Change and Canada Place. These shops will provide you with all the latest fashion trends from some globally recognised brands, all situated in the fashion capital of the world. All of these shopping hotspots are unique as Oxford Street is a major thoroughfare in the City of Westminster, which contains a staggering 548 shops. Brent Cross is one of the oldest shopping malls in the UK having been built back in 1974, and One New Change is a major office and retail development in the City of London and it contains retail space, office space and a modern shopping centre and was recently completed costing £500 million. Canada Place and Jubilee Square are situated under the popular business district of Canary Wharf, which boasts amazing shop fronts which are all built using structural glazing. Shopping there is a great way for many to get away from the pressures of work in the business district.

Other famous landmarks around London, which you may bump in to inadvertently, are some of the popular train stations, which are always packed with tourists and commuters getting to and from work. Among the most popular are London Liverpool Street, St Pancras International Station and Seven Sisters. Come morning, noon and night, they'll be filled with travellers, so be prepared for crowds.
