To Do List In Rio De Janeiro For February 2011 Part 1
2010 is officially over and this year promises to be just as exciting, at least for tourists that plan on visiting Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The beaches are still there, the nightlife is as exciting as ever, the beautiful ladies are still invading the city; basically all the good things you know about Rio are still there, maybe they have got even better. For those of you that postponed their winter vacation and plan on taking one in February, here are some of the most exciting things to do in Rio next month.
Let's kick things off with a monthly event, organized on the 5th of the month. Dubbed Feira do Rio Antigo, the Rua do Lavardio morphs into a beautiful antiques market. Shoppers have the possibility to browse through more than 100 stalls while the bars and the restaurants will extend their tables and chairs onto the pavement. The time for this event will be between 10 AM and 6 PM.
An annual event is the Oi Noites Cariocas, organized at Avenida Rodrigues Alves, 10. Translated into Oi Rio Nights, it is a much awaited season of rock and pop concerts. Here important Brazilian artists will perform at Pier Maua during ...
... the balmy summer evenings, as well as other events and musicals.
Every Sunday of the week from 7 AM to 7 PM, Rio de Janeiro is the home of the Feira Hippie (Hippie Market). It is a tradition that goes back to 1968 and it is a very good place for purchasing paintings, jewellery, leather, furniture, clothes, toys and musical instruments. The address is at: Praça General Osório, Ipanema.
Moving on to something a little bit more interesting, we find the Motorcross Freestyle Brazil Cup, an annual event. The beautiful and exclusive Rio de Janeiro beachside area Barra da Tijuca is the home of this event where the country's biggest and most important names in motorcross as well as international guests perform exciting and dangerous mid-air feats with their motorcycles, aiming to win the national title.
If you are not into the entire Carnival deal, the Parati Carnival might be exactly what you need. It is an annual event hosted down the coast to the old colonial town of Parati. The entire tradition is set in a utopian environment and the place is less crowded in comparison to the big party. Some of the celebrations include carnival groups, masked blocos, along with adults and children dressed in fancy clothing and effigies of famous personalities. The carnival costume here is in most of the cases harmlessly scary with deformed papier mache heads and skulls. The vast majority of the celebrations that are organized here take place in the historic district of Parati, but there are a couple of events which are set on the local beaches. The entire celebration is located approximately 170km south of the Rio de Janeiro city.
