Puzzle enthusiasts are always searching for a new, different and challenging jigsaw puzzle types and once they master the basics of doing one, it is quite hard to find something harder to complete. In the following, we will present you a few examples of jigsaw puzzle types that are somewhat more complicated to complete and will most likely take you many hours of fun.

First of all, if you haven't tried one yet, get a model with lots of pieces. Although puzzles with many pieces may not be inherently harder in comparison to a standard one, there are a couple of models that can prove to be daunting to the novice puzzler. Most of the people say that a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle is large, but there are a few models out there that pass the 8,000-piece mark. If even this isn't enough, the current world record for the largest jigsaw puzzle in the world belongs to a model that has 24,000 pieces - that should last you for a couple of months, even a year.

Second of all, there are quite a few interesting 3D puzzles which can provide a very unique and difficult challenge. When doing them, think of building a model rather than ...
... completing a regular jigsaw puzzle. There is wide selection of 3D puzzles available, but many of them are of cities and buildings. Besides this increased difficulty in finishing off such a project; you will have to think about a safe place to exhibit your masterpiece.

In the opinion of many, the most frustrating and very well annoying puzzles are the 2-sided models, especially for those that have the same image on both sides. Think about doing a puzzle when you do not even know if the pieces are right side up or not. There are some 2-sded jigsaw puzzles that have different pictures, which will most likely double your mileage with it, but it won't be more difficult to complete, it will only take you more time to do it.

Ravensburger is one of the most important jigsaw producers in the world and one of their most interesting models is the one without any picture. All of the pieces of the jigsaw puzzles are silver metallic and there is no picture to complete. Each of the pieces has a different shape from the others and only so you will be able to discover their pattern, really quite interesting, but very hard at the same time.

Another example from Ravensburger is the mirror image puzzles which have a picture that is a mirror image to the one found on the box. One minor variation will make you think about for hours as you attempt to orient yourself with the picture.

The last example of an interesting type of puzzle is for edge models. The puzzler will have to start with the edge of the puzzle and work his way into the interior. These edge puzzles are cut so that each and every piece of the jigsaw puzzle has a flat side, making it almost impossible to sort out the true edge pieces as your first step.

As you can see, there is a lot more to it rather than just a simple jigsaw puzzle. These are available in various shapes, different number of pieces as well as other variations that make them both challenging and interesting at the same time.
