Maid of Honor speeches are different. Most wedding speeches are given by the father of the bride or groom or even the best man. So they are speeches that are given from a male perspective. Maid of honor speeches are obviously made a female perspective and so are more personal. Women, after all, speak more freely to each other than most men.

The reason the Maid of Honor is usually chosen to be the bride's chief attendant because she is either a sister of the bride or else a very good friend. Normally she has known the bride for years and has many shared memories. So her speech will be very personal and will reflect on those years of friendship. Usually too as she will be a peer of the bride and she will make some humorous comments in her speech about their shared activities. Naturally she will not mention anything that will make the bride, or her grandmother, blush!

The Maid of Honor's speech should be short but it should also be very sincere. That will not be a problem to most Maids of Honor because usually they want to wish the bride and her groom every happiness in their married life. If the maid of honor ...
... is married and thus a Matron of Honor she may also like to give a little bit of advice about how to handle the groom! She will, naturally, be speaking from her own vast experience.

The Maid of Honor can tell, probably better than most, what friendship means to the bride. She will speak of just how much that friendship has meant in her own life. She can tell too of the bride's talents and skills. She may be able to speak of hobbies and interests the bride has which are unknown to others. In other words when she is speaking she is speaking of someone w ho is very close to her. Her speech, therefore, will reflect their ongoing relationship. She may talk of helping the bride choose her wedding dress but she may also talk about helping her with furnishing her home. She will be speaking as someone who will in all probability, be spending lots of time in that home. Sometimes, of course, she may live at a distance from the couple but the understanding is there that their relationship is an ongoing and very close one.

So Maid of Honor speeches are intimate, sometimes witty and always truly sincere in wishing happiness for the bride and groom.
