With the growing number of folks admittedly going crazy over Japanese culture, mostly owing to anime, there are brides which can be showing interest in wearing a traditional Japanese wedding dress at their anime or cosplay-themed wedding. Unlike the wedding theme, the dress would really be steeped in tradition. While both Western and Japanese wedding dresses are pure white, that's the last thing similar about both of them. Plus, if ever the bride would be seriously following Japanese wedding tradition, she'll need two dresses, not one.

The first wedding dress will be for their ceremony only and is called a shiro-maku. It's a plain silk dress with absolutely no decorations thanks to its name, meaning white (shiro) and pure (maku) . This white kimono would be something so long that it's a standard sight to see the bride having her attendants assist her at holding it up. The reason why she will be all in white, right down to her clogs, socks, and makeup would be to point out to the gods that she is a maiden. At the wedding reception, the bride puts another kimono over this one. It's a complete contrast to the initial because ...
... it's sewn in bright colors and is completely decorated. It's a simple change, though, since the bride simply puts it on top of the shiro-maku. There are many happy colors to choose from although most brides pick red because it symbolizes happiness and good luck.

The bride's hair will be put up in an elaborate hairstyle called the bunkin-takashimada which will be, more often than otherwise, a wig. It's decorated with gold combs and hair accessories to bring good luck to this couple. Then a white hood covers the bride's hair throughout the ceremony, called the tsuno kakushi. Actually, the name means hide the horns of jealousy and signifies the bride will be being married willingly and vows to become a nice and serene wife, despite her mother-in-law! At the reception, the hood will be removed to show off her hairstyle and pretty dress. Then after a specific part of their ceremony, many brides choose another gown - a Western one.

The Japanese wedding dress takes in all the rich culture of the Japanese.
