Selection Process For Student Parliament In India
The thought that comes to one's mind when we hear about elections or selecting candidates, is one associated with rigging, cohesion or fraudulent ways of forcing people to vote for a certain person for power, money and fame.
The Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad is dedicated to the task of bringing student leaders on a common platform, sensitizing them towards the noble cause of nation building. Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad that is being organized from January 12-14, 2011, at MIT Campus in Pune, aims at changing the mindset of people in this matter.
The selection process for the Student Council is fair and transparent and free from any discrepancies. There are around 10,000 colleges which are invited to participate in this programme. Each college elects or nominates its ‘Student Council (SC)', which represents the students of that college in the university to which it is affiliated.
There are various designations for office bearers in each student council. For example, those in Maharashtra go with the title of general secretary and joints secretary. At the same time, each university has a representative, titled ...
... as University Representative, who is chosen from the colleges affiliated to it. Students elected are those who have portrayed excellence in academics as well as have proven their leadership skills and posses such qualities that, if cultivated can go a long way in bringing change and delivering such resolutions that maybe the answers which have been long searched for, for several burning issues.
The student leaders from rest of the country participate on a selective basis. Maharashtra has 33 universities which include State Universities, Agriculture Universities, Medical University, Deemed Universities & Central Universities which have more than 4000 colleges affiliated to them. Other 426 colleges represent colleges across the rest of India. Apart from the university representatives from the rest of India, a few of the student council leaders from the chosen universities outside Maharashtra are also invited on a selective basis to participate in the event.
In all, 4000 colleges from Maharashtra are invited. Out of these, two student council representatives have to be selected and sent. Thus in all, there is a presence of around 10,000 to 20,000 participants. This is a once in a lifetime exposure for those interested to make their entry step into the political scenario, and that too not just for fame or power, but for those who have a desire to change the Indian scenario, and make the nation more united and preserve its integrity, while at the same time, making it reach greater heights.
This flame of nation building is hoped to be a great success this year, so that from the following year onwards, it can be carried on in other states as well. The highlight of this would be that the youth would be mobilized to generate positive ripples and ensure path breaking success.
