Gearing To A Better Nation: Objectives Of The Student Parliament 2011
With the nation witnessing huge political scandals involving the recent 2G scam to the cash-for-vote scandal that agitated the parliament and the Indian politics, the citizens are yearning for a government run by politicians who show decent amount of sincerity and integrity. Case such as the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2002, show that candidates with criminal records won 206 out of 403 seats in the assembly, implying more criminals were elected than regular politicians.
The current Prime Minister, Mr. Manmohan Singh has said that the country needed a law to define the meaning of "criminal" - and who should or should not be a minister. Such has been the scenario in Indian politics. The Washington Times reported that nearly a fourth of the 540 Indian Parliament members faced criminal charges, "including human trafficking, immigration rackets, embezzlement, rape and even murder".
Students of many domains have aspired to seek an answer to this long lasting desire for the taxpayers and had initiated political parties with a sense to bring a proper rule but they have not been acknowledged by the commoners, ...
... putting back them to square one.
But recently, MAEER's MIT School of Government has come to organize the 1st Indian Parliament of Student Council Leaders (Bharatiya Chatra Sansad) on a two day period starting on Jan 12, 2011 at MIT Campus, Pune. With many renowned delegates including the former president Dr. Abdul Kalam, former Deputy Prime Minister, Shri. L. K. Advani, Retd. IPS officer Dr. Kiran Bedi and Olympic Boxing Medalist Shri. Vijendra Singh and more than 10,000 students of the student council of various institutions from throughout India expected to participate; the event has insightful objectives that have to be accredited by the commoners and VIPs as well.
Students who have sweated to become a righteous politician never have had a chance to shape their dreams and lacked a common platform where they can collaborate and share their thoughts and ideas and seek counseling of the wise. The juncture aims at solving this query by providing the right mixture to help out those aspirants. The event is on a mission to bring eminent leaders and aspiring leaders closer and thus promoting healthy exchange of worthy knowledge. This is of immense value to the thousands who had no access to the right counsel.
The congregation intends to instill thoughts about the recent events in the regional and national perspective and propel them to ponder on bringing a proper solution to the cause. This motivates the participants and in-turn their peers, in effecting an insight in them about the things that need urgent attention and action.
The MIT's School of Government believes that the connect will create a sense of togetherness and keep the attendees of the congregation close and will therefore pay way for constructive collaborative efforts in the future for the betterment of the nation.
