The Smooth Fox Terrier is known to be the first fox terrier recognized by the Kennel Club of London in 1875. This cheerful little breed weighs an average between 13-20 pounds, and has the height 13-16 inches.

This Smooth-coated Fox Terrier has a soft coat that is thick and lies close to the skin. Commonly seen Smooth Fox Terrier coat color is white, with various accent colors may appear such as brown, tan, black, brindle, or liver markings.

The Smooth Fox Terrier is generally easy to groom. Their fur uniformly grows all over their entire body, so they should be clipped or sheared regularly for them to appear neat. For general maintenance of these dogs, brushing their coats, keeping the nails trimmed and short, cleaning the fur out of the pads of their feet is important. Tooth brushing is also advised. They have to get accustomed to grooming at the earliest to make it easier for them to control during grooming.
Training
The Smooth Fox Terrier is generally intelligent, and can be willful at times. Due to that fact, training can be a challenge, but owners should never let them dominate. As such, consistency in the training should be maintained. Training this terrier is difficult, but with patience, they will soon realize who is in control.
With the eagerness to please, the Smooth Fox Terrier should never be shouted at as this could make them anxious. Training this breed should be done in an interesting manner coupled with positive reinforcement, abundance in praise and reward for every correct act, and ignoring them when they are at their bad behavior.
Socialization should be given at the earliest, particularly with households that are used to having visitors around. The Smooth Fox Terrier is known to have a hard time getting along with other dogs. So meeting other dogs should be prioritized as this will increase the possibility to accept other dogs and not trying to dominate them.
Character
The Smooth Fox Terrier is loving yet dominant at times. They are very loyal with their families, but extremely hostile towards other dogs and small animals. This breed is friendly and playful with their family, although they should never be trusted unsupervised in areas where they are off their leash.
