This article will teach us how to rework a cracked concrete floor resembling slate at a fraction of the cost. The project begins with clean concrete surfaces. So, if you are negligent in the cleaning process, it can change the entire end effect. Any paint, any glue, or any particles should be removed either by a normal washing procedure or a concrete cleaner. The goal is to remove dirt and debris.
Etching the Concrete Floor
In a clean vessel, mix water proportionate to muriatic acid. The muriatic acid is caustic and hazardous that will etch, exfoliate and open the pores of the concrete. As with any reworking or reconstructing process, always refer to the manufacturer's safety guidelines to the core. In a different vessel, mix ammonia with water proportionately. Flood the area with the acid solution and spread it with a broom so everything is roofed. Once you see that the acid has stopped fizzing, feed the area with the ammonia mixture to neutralize the acid and adjust the pH. Remember the ammonia reacts instantaneously; so don't wait to let it take the effect. If you feel there is excess ammonia ...
... rinse it off again by washing the area again.
Preparing Surfaces for the Skim Coat
Surface should be prepared for the skim coat. This step ensures that the skim coat doesn't bond to the house.
Mixing the thin Finish Skim Coat
Mixing the thin finish skim coat involves a mixing paddle and heavy duty mixing drill. Wear a safety mask, so that the consistency is there throughout the job. Let the material is settled for few minutes and then re-mix.
Applying the Skim Coat
Concrete should be wet, but with no puddles. Pour the skim coat and starting from the edge spread the skim coat evenly. Employ a paintbrush for the edges, and let the skim coat dry for hours before you begin to apply the next coat.
Applying a Thin Bonding Layer
For the better performance, apply a thin finish stamping layer. To make a thin finish stamping layer, ready to follow the instructions laid down by the manufacturer. The mixture should be mixed evenly, and must be allowed to set for five minutes and mixed again. Several batches are required to ensure consistency level.
Applying the Thin Finish
Wet the concrete thoroughly leaving no puddles behind. Squeegee off excess water on a layer of Thin Finish. It is a better idea to work in small actions to avoid any mistakes. Smooth out the surface by floating it across the surface. Paint the sides, and do not forget the texture pave to set up before stamping.
Stamping the Concrete
Allow the Texture Pave to dry according to the expert's recommendations to the point it is fit to stamp the concrete. Begin with the outside edge of the concrete area and apply the stamp working towards the center. Overlap the edges by three to four inches and allow it to dry for several hours.
Taking out all divots and lumps from concrete
Use a rubbing stone to smooth any bumps out of concrete that have dried overnight. Rub the edges and clean the dust off.
Applying the sealer
Apply sealer according to manufacturer's instructions. Usually application can be done with a paint roller. Leave enough time for all the coats to dry well, at each stage. Also, throughout the whole process wear socks because shoes may leave unwanted marks on your floor.
Now you can manage to learn the art of revamping your floors. This will certainly be more economical than hiring a professional to do the job for you. The most important thing is to carry out the whole process with care and patience because every little detail will ultimately affect the desired result.
