The Prominence Of A Systems Administrator's Job
There are several things as an employee of renowned organizations that could hinder your regular work process. It could issues related to your boss, issues with your sub-ordinate, issues with security guards, and the list goes on. But all these issues are subjective and could be effectively solved and sanity in the work-place can be brought back. But imagine you were to go through any of the following scenarios at your work-place:
Secnario 1: You want to send across an urgent e-mail to a prospective client that would exemplify your product's pricing levels. But your inbox is spammed and you cannot compose mails. What would you do?
Scenario 2: There are a lot of important files stored and saved in your system. Files that even your boss does not possess. Your system crasher and you loose everything. What would you do?
Scenario 3: You have joined newly and you require your systems to be set-up immediately cause your performance will be measured as soon as you start. And you do not know how to set up your system. What would you do?
Scenario 4: You are extremely fed up and disturbed by numerous virus-attacks ...
... and web malware updates. And this is creating a hindrance in your job. What would you do?
Scenario 5: You have difficulty in understanding a new upgrade that has happened in the technology world and you do not know how to operate with it. What would you do?
All of the 5 scenarios mentioned above pop-up different questions for which there is one common answer - Hire a Systems Administrator. A systems administrator a.k.a. the IT Guy always answers to any wrong-happening in the computer system at your work-place. His job, though very under-rated, is apparently one of the most essential and effective jobs existing in the corporate world. Quite similar to a software professional, a systems administrator's job is also quite complex, yet interesting though not quite lucrative and advanced.
Let's just take a look at what exactly ‘the IT GUY' does and how he holds the key to all the 5 tough scenarios. A systems administrator (SA) performs the task of a postmaster who administers the e-mail server and installs the same on to an employee's system enabling smooth e-mail communication. In case of any spamming or hackers' attack, the SA troubleshoots and fixes the problem using his knowledge in the IT field (answers scenario 1).
The SA most times makes sure that all your documents and files are saved on another server, ensuring safe back-up storage of all your vital files (answers scenario 2). He also does the job of installing, supporting, and maintaining servers or other computer systems, hence customizing the system according to the employee's grade, working requirements and relevant to other details (answers scenario 3). The SA also is in charge of security administration, whereby he plays the role of safeguarding your system against all kinds of malware and virus attacks. He is a specialist in computer and network security, including the administration of security devices such as firewalls (answers scenario 4). He also plays the role of a Technical Support Representative and trains employees on new and improved technological upgrades that occur in computer systems. As a Tech support he responds to individual users' difficulties with computer systems, provides instructions and sometimes trains, and diagnoses and solves common problems (answers scenario 5).
This should explain to you that the job of a Systems Administrator is of true and immense value and should never be underestimated at any level.
