Human Resource Departments employ a range of employees that assume the general staffing and internal management needs of an agency or organization. Overall duties of the branch include filling vacant company positions and terminating redundant positions. The branch will also coordinate and supervise employees in a manner that best helps in achieving the goals of the organization. These units are headed by the human resource Manager whose duties include:

1. Management of the personnel department within a company
2. Recruiting - Putting Up advertisements or okaying advertisements for new staff.
3. Viewing resumes and applications.
4. Making interview appointments and being a part of the hiring process.
5. Providing employee supervision and evaluations, providing mediation services for struggling staff.
6. Performance Management by ensuring that current staff receive on the job training and firing staff that are not meeting standards.
7. Communication monitoring management processes throughout the agency.
8. Making Policy Recommendations that will better overall agency efficiency.

... resources managers need to communicate with staff at all levels within the business; they will therefore need to be strong and effective communicators who possess excellent teamwork skills. HR Managers will need high degrees of confidentiality as they will be privy to the confidential information of everyone employed by the company.

To have the best chance of being hired in any the above mentioned positions, candidates, will require a well rounded Education as well as training to prepare for Human Resource Employment. Most tertiary level institutions do not offer Bachelor degree specializations in Human Resource Management or Administration. These are normally reserved for the Masters level or in certification and diploma program. Degree programmes that ufficiently prepare persons for a career in Human Resources are:
