All You Need To Know About Charitable Giving
Charitable Giving is the action of giving money, goods or time to those less fortunate than ourselves. This can be done directly or through a charitable organisation which is involved directly with the cause on our behalf.
Some religions regard giving to charity as a duty and make it a compulsory part of their lives. This is sometimes referred to as alms, which originated from the simple expression of putting your hand out to help someone or give them money.
Mainly people give to the poor or sick and disabled. Ways in which this can be done include providing water, food, clothing and shelter - the necessities in life to keep someone alive and well. Tending to the ill is also another option. Actions such as visiting home bound people, educating orphans or ransoming captives are also considered to be forms of charity but are less obvious and not usually immediately associated. Funding research for illnesses like cancer or diabetes through an organisation are popularly regarded as charity too.
There are various ways in which people give to charity. Employees of a charitable organisation may stand in public ...
... places holding collection pots and asking passers by for donations. This is usually a small amount of cash, but it all adds up. Other people may decide to take part in an event or a race and collect sponsors for friends and family. Perhaps this may be a marathon or a sponsored silence. Often people do this if they have lost a loved one to a certain disease and want to raise money to help others in a similar situation, or maybe a school has asked it's pupils to fundraise for a specific cause. Sponsored silences and Mufty days (where children where their own clothes instead of uniform) are popular in schools. This brings a large group of people together by each donating a small amount, to create a much larger donation.
Cake sales and car boot or jumble sales are also other ways to raise money for charity. Charitable Giving is not always about financial donations though, as time and goods can also be given. For example, a philanthropic foundation may request the public to collect together some old toys or unwanted gifts to pass on to an orphan as a present at Christmas. Or people may donate their help by attending an elderly care home and chatting to the residents, making dinner or doing cleaning. Often this is a much more rewarding way to help out someone in need, as you get to see the impact it has on them first hand and feel like you are making a real difference. It's more of a personal touch than just giving some money which any person could do.
