The Briquet Griffon Vendeen is medium-sized with remarkable shaggy white coat. This breed is a well-renowned companion dog all through Europe. A stocky but well-balanced breed, their weight averages from 35-53 pounds, and height between 19-24 inches.

Coat

The Briquet Griffon Vendeen has a bushy, thick and wiry double coat. The topcoat is harsh, and may look as disheveled and unkempt, but can be easily fixed with a paddle brush. Their undercoat is dense and soft, offering warmth against the cold climates that this breed was used to. The color of their coats may range from white and black, white and orange, shades of orange and brown, or tricolored.

Activity

The Briquet Griffon Vendeen requires regular brushing to avoid matting. The coat should be stripped to keep it well-groomed and neat. Hair must be pulled out using a special stripping tool or thumb and any of the fingers. Owners should not be worried about the pain during stripping since the coat is shallow-rotted, and is pulled out if trapped, so it is painless. Regularly clean the ears to avoid yeast infection, and clipping their nails once or twice a month.

Training

The Briquet Griffon Vendeen is highly intelligent, and responds well to directions. They are easiest to train as puppies, as they tend to be eager to please. As with many other dogs, it is important to teach them that they are not the boss. Early socialization is recommended, as this will assist them to interact with other dogs, and teach them how to be fair and patient with others. Obedience training may take time, especially if they have reached maturity. However, this breed may still be taught as they grow especially if trust has already been developed.

The Briquet Griffon Vendeen is very lively, and eager to learn. This breed learns well if trained with consistency, patience, reward, and fairness.

Character

Briquet Griffon Vendeens are highly alert, energetic, and intelligent dog. They are very robust and vigilant. Although brave and courageous in nature, they can behave strangely when they are afraid or they discover something unusual. They love to be around with their families, and can be destructive if left alone for extended periods of time.
